Customer Reviews:
The One November 9, 2008 I would hazard a guess that this is the most reviewed headphone on Amazon, by far (700+ and counting to date). At the risk of overkill, I feel compelled to add my voice to the chorus of praise.
I have used this for over a month consistently and I think I know its characteristics fairly well by now. Simply put, the PX 100 is the best bang for the buck that you can find (I paid less than 40 USD on Amazon) in portable headphones, if you care at all about sound quality of the music you listen to. Besides the 100 I also have a Grado 60, Senns 212, 280, 555, 580 a few IEM's such as Etymotic and Senns 300. Right now, the px 100 is my favorite pair of cans of them all, not because it sounds the best (the Senns 580 takes the honor for that) but because it is the most well balanced and does it for less, sometimes way less, than all the rest. It is very transparent, has lots of air, with reasonably tight bass, neutral mids and open trebles. It will sound great on all kinds of music (I listen to mostly classical and acoustic jazz but also some pop)straight out of the box, although it does benefit from break ins like all headphones, and is very comfortable to wear. The hard plastic carrying case is also neat and durable, though folding the phones does take a little practice. Bottom line, if you are looking for a pair of open air cans, you cannot do better for the price.
A four bagger, no, make that a grand slam, for Sennheiser.
Best Portable Headphones I've ever heard November 8, 2008 This is an early review. I've had these for about a week. First off, I would not consider myself an audiophile. I've never listened to $300+ headphones or anything. I have owned a lot of different headphones in the $20 to $50 range and these are by far the best sounding phones I've ever used. They are very comfortable too. I use them in my home and office. The open style is good so I can hear my wife when she needs to get my attention or when my kids wake up from a nap. In the office someone just needs to speak to get my attention and the best thing is then I'm not disturbing them (I'm not in a cubicle). That is the hitch though. If you are somewhere noisy like a coffee shop you're going to hear everything around you and everyone else is going to hear your music. I use some Phillips ear buds that I like for those settings. I am very happy with the sound quality of these headphones. The bass isn't overpowered, the highs and mids are clear and I've notice as they're breaking in the depth of the sound is improving. Highly recommended if you're not looking for something that will keep outside noise.
Sennheiser PX-100 Headphones November 3, 2008 My second pair - taking new pair to work. Never, never had earphones this good ... and I've purchased plenty !!! I'm a Bose fanatic - these are just as good !
Took 4-5 years to break them October 29, 2008 After a string of headphones that sounded fine but broke easily, I got these about 4-5 years ago. After a little break-in, the sound was great -- enough bass, but not overwhelming, and crystal clear on the higher end. These headphones can pump out volume -- hooked up to a laptop you could practically use them as speakers. The open-ear design isn't for everyone, but for me it was ideal -- I can walk through New York with the volume up, but still hear enough of my surroundings to be safe.
But, sadly, after 4-5 years of daily, rough use (often 10-12 hours a day, through all kinds of weather), I've finally managed to wear a hole through the cord, killing one of the speakers. But it took YEARS of hard daily use to do it, so I'll gladly lay down another couple of bucks for another set.
Compact, Excellent Sound October 27, 2008 I bought these headphones to keep at work and to take on short trips. I was not expecting a whole lot from headphones in this price range but have been very pleasantly surprised. They sound really good and product very good bass for a small headphone set. They are very compact and fold up to fit in tiny spaces. If you are looking form something compact that still sounds good I highly recommend them.
