One thing before you disagree or knock down my review by not-recommending it - Judas Priest will not stop from being who they are just because they wanted to try something different. At least thinking that way encourages...
However, I had high hopes for this double release but at the end I caught myself asleep right after "Sand of Time" finished. I was expecting rip roaring guitars and Halford's vocal depth but it never happened. Yes, the orchestra adds a depth to the music but as a Priest fan all I need from them is fast and furious headbanging sound that makes you want to scream. That's Priest!
Judas Priest wanted a concept album instead they put their real fans to bed. This album doesn't have that "kicker" song or anything to be recognized by. It's all symphonic and they are supposed to be heavy. Somebody said "Jugulator" was bad. Well, I'll take it before this mediocre release anytime.
Opera & sympho metal fans will buy Avantasia if they crave for such a sound and stuff, but please let us Priest fans listen to real JP.

Nostradamus is 100 minutes of pure bliss! Not lame false metal stuff like "Painkiller" or "Screaming For Vengeance", "Nostradamus" is TRUE METAL! The non-cheesy vocals, intriguing concept, razor-sharp drumming and killer riffs make this easily their best album! No Spinal Tap here! This is definitely the best album of their career.

This album proves how smart Judas Priest are?
Why?
Nostradamus is the perfect person to make an album about because whether his preditions are true or not, he is a MYSTERIOUS individual.
You know you've done something extra ordinary when, over 500 years after your death they're still talking about you.
The guy who said this album is like KISS' "The Elder" couldn't be more mistaken. I have been a KISS fan and collector since 1976 and had "The Elder" back in 1981 and at the time I thought it was a COOL album (KISS could do no wrong for me back then)but Nostradamus was a real person and "The Elder" was not, and was supposed to be the basis for a film sort of like Pink Floyd's "The Wall" type genre.
I'm glad Nostradamus has been nominated for two Grammy awards. It deserves to win "Best Heavy Metal Album" by SOMEBODY.
I saw the Priest live in Seattle on July 22nd and they're so GOOD I want to see them again. There's nothing like seeing a bona fide LEGENDARY band live is there?
I wonder if Nostradamus could forsee that over 500 years after his death Heavy Metal LEGENDS Judas Preist would dedicate an album in his honor?

There's a lot of people that do not like this album simply because it doesn't sound like old Priest. To start, this is a stupid way to listen to music. If you don't like a band changing their sound, go buy the first albums of every rock and metal band there is, listen, then find a way remove your hearing permanently.
Of course there are also many people out there that love this album just because it is Judas Priest. Sigh.....
Anyways, the point is this album is an amazing piece of work, but it's really going to depend on whether you like Progressive Metal as opposed to Metal. This is definately not old Priest, but it is something they have wanted to do for a while. If you like Progressive Metal, you are probably going to love this. If not, you are probably going to hate it.
From my opinion, this is a good four and a half album (from someone who loves Progressive Metal). This album is exactly what it should be. There are some slow parts in the album that feel like they drag along a bit. The rest of this album is great. The album gets a -.5 for not being as good as Tobias Sammet's Avantasia.
Don't listen to fools. Don't listen to me either. Progressive Metal is a different sound for most in the US. Figure it out yourself whether you like it.
P.S. The subject title is legal. Halford sang it at least twice.

WOW! That's the only word that comes to mind when I listen to this album. Concept or not, this sounds like classic Priest and it effin' ROCKS! This album was released around the same time as the new Motley Crue album and it just totally blew it away! The songs are put together to chronicle the life of Nostradamus, and each songs reflects a turning point in his life. What you get is a collaboration of slow, gentle sounds with fierce classic rock. The guitar solos on this album alone are worth the price of buying it. They have never sounded better. I personally like to have variety in a bands music, as long as they don't go too far out in left field. I don't think this album does that at all. I am proud to add it to my collection of Judas Priest albums.
Other albums I bought that sound like this are: Sloopjohnd , Rocka Rolla and Persistence of Time
