Kindle is my friend November 23, 2008 Don't know how I ever did without it. Have been an avid reader all my life. I never give my books away. I own very few books I have read less than twice, many I have read 3 to 4 times. I often compare one author's view in one book to another's in a diff book. This is so simple with Kindle. I only wish Kindle had been available years ago and all the paper books I have collected over the years were on my Kindle. Now let's get all titles available on Kindle. Bill Richards, VA.
My Third Kindle November 23, 2008 I am a gadget guy, but the Kindle is a life changer beyond gadget. I read 2 to 4 books a week and travel a lot. The Kindle greatly decreases my load and increases my happiness. More than my iphone and ipod, it has changed how I live.
Amazing Kindle November 23, 2008 I bought a Kindle about three weeks ago at the beginning of November 2008 and have read one full book and some newspapers. It is much like reading/handling a paperback size book. The only problem when reading is that with the controls on both sides of the Kindle I sometimes accidentally press these and the pages will move forward or back. I am learning now to hold the cover now instead of the actual Kindle.
The ease of ordering books is amazing--maybe too easy! You want to order lots of books. It will be great for travel as you can carry so many books in your little Kindle. I have yet to see if my Kindle Whispernet works on Beaver Island MI (an island in the middle of Lake Michigan) when I go there in the summer. If the Whispernet works there I'll be doing a happy dance!
The actual reading is easy on the Kindle. Outside or overhead light does not affect the ease of reading. The size of the font can be changed to whatever you want. The large size is large enough to see easily (I wear reading glasses). When it is in the large font size though you need to turn the page more since there is less print on the page (I get lazy). So I have found my happy medium of font size. The nice thing is that this can be changed anytime. I guess if I forgot my reading glasses I could increase the font size and still read!
I tried a couple NY Times during election time. It was great to get the paper when I wanted it but I found it hard to maneuver in the paper. I probably would need to practice reading the newspaper on the Kindle format before I would like it. I do like pictures in my newspaper and missed that. The Kindle has such beautiful grey shade pictures as screen savers that I'm sure many photos could be transferred to Kindle screens! That is one reason I haven't ordered a subscription to Newsweek yet as I enjoy the photos. But maybe when I am away from civilization on Beaver Island I will need to try that to keep up with the world!
Looking up word meanings is the best thing yet! You know how you always mean to look up words but..... Well, with the Kindle you can instantly look up the words. One thing I would LOVE to see on the Kindle is also a MAP LOOKUP! I always want to see maps of places in relation to other places and a map lookup would be a fantastic feature. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (my first book on Kindle) takes place in Sweden and I kept wanting to see where the towns were in relation to Stockholm. Kindle builders please put a map lookup feature on our Kindles!!!
My brother has another brand electronic book and he does not have the flexibility of the Kindle; I am so glad I went with the Kindle. I love the Kindle!
Greatest thing since books November 23, 2008 I have had the Kindle for about one month. I read on an average of two or three books completely a week. I also have about four others going that are not for pleasure but some type of learning. So the stacks by my chair and bed are pretty high. The Kindle has eliminated this and given me freedom to take everything with me. Also if I hear of a book I don't have to wait to go to a store for it. I truly love the Kindle.
Sure it has a few quirks and it is a little pricey but so was the first iPod and they just keep improving. Also this is so much better than other ebooks. I think it is great. I'm going on a trip and taking 100 books.
Love to Read November 23, 2008 I bought the Kindle with great expectations and it has turned out to be pretty close to what I expected.. It's very easy to use I love that fact that you can just type in a title or author, choose the book you would like to read & just download it but I should have looked through the authors I read more & see if it was more accessible to them. There are a few book that I cannot download. A little disheartening but all in all its a great buy.. I must admit I do miss the old fashion books at times & find myself picking them up to read once in a while.
