5 out of 5 stars the amazing Kindle   December 2, 2008
this is an awesome product and very user friendly. I bought one to give as a gift but as I was seeing how it worked and if a person not computer friendly could use it I was impressed. My sister will love it so I had to order another one for her as a gift because I kept this one. It is so easy and I love it.

Thanks,
Judy

5 out of 5 stars Kindle   December 2, 2008

My daughter recorded the Oprah segment about the Kindle and made sure I saw it. After just returning from a business trip and exhausting all my reading material, I decided to try this out. I was very skeptical and made sure I would be able to return if I did not like this new alternative to books. Well, I tried it and I am hooked. I put it in my purse and take it everywhere. I was waiting for a table at a restaurant over the weekend reading to pass the time and ended up with a crowd around me asking me all about it. Hm, I should ask for a commission!

The variable text size is great for those times that I don't have my reading glasses around. I just adjust the size to max and read away. The only improvement I will request is that it be somehow lighted so you do not need an additional booklight. If they came up with that, it would be perfect.

5 out of 5 stars Kindle Crazy!!!   December 2, 2008

I got my Kindle last month and I LOVE IT!!! I can make the font larger so it's easy to read when I'm on the treadmill. It's totally easy to use. I am a middle age mom and not very techno-savey and it's a cinch to use. I love being able to preview books, magazines and newspapers, and browse the web.

I love this product and enjoy looking up words I do not know, previewing books, etc. However, I notice there is a black line being burned into the screen and graphics come in blurry. Mr. Bezos give us color too! This has so much more potential to be amazing but for now it is great.

5 out of 5 stars Kindle is great!   December 2, 2008

I purchased the Kindle after seeing it on Oprah. I absolutely love it!!! I wasn't sure how I'd feel not having a book in my hand. And it took a little getting used to. But after a month of using it, there's no going back for me. There are a few things I haven't figured out. I seem to hit the "BACK" button (under the next page on the right) and I can't figure where I've gone or how to get back to where I was in the book. It's probably as plain as the nose on my face..but I can't figure it out. ;)

I also don't like that there are no "page numbers." Yes there is a location number, but I'm not likely to remember I'm on location number 2263-1175. Give me page 7. I can remember that. But I understand with using 6 different font sizes, no one's page numbers would be the same.

My biggest problem seems to be that I read ENTIRELY too quickly. I know that on the Tuesday before the next month, I can walk into my local Books a Million and pick up the new books available on 12/1. Not so with the Kindle. You have to "pre-purchase" them. Then they arrive on the first of the month. Which is great. BUT some of the books I read aren't available in Kindle's format yet. There's a nice feature that allows you to request that book in Kindle format, but there's no way to know if or when it becomes available. There should be an alert system that tells you once you've requested a book in Kindle format, that it's available.

I'd like Amazon to have a list of books you've purchased available on your homescreen of the website. And/or a wish list. I've had to create a Word Doc on my home PC to list the books I want to read because what I want to read isn't available in Kindle format yet.

I have not really used the blogs, magazines or newspapers on the Kindle. I've browsed them. But I haven't purchased any. My husband likes that there is free wireless internet on the Kindle. It's a little slow to move around, but you can use it!

I think once publishers realize that this is the future, all books will be available right away in Kindle format. Until then, I'll have to slow down my reading process. :)
