Description A lonely doctor (Sandra Bullock) who once occupied an unusual lakeside home begins exchanging love letters with its newest resident, a frustrated architect (Keanu Reeves). When they discover that they're actually living two years apart, they must try to unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance before it's too late.
Amazon.com Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock pair up again in what could be described as the anti-Speed: The Lake House, a sweet, relaxed-paced, whimsical romance. When Alex Wyler (Reeves, The Matrix) moves into an unusual glass house on stilts over a lake, he discovers a note from the previous tenant in the mailbox--but no one's lived in the house for years. He replies and soon discovers that he's corresponding with a doctor named Kate Forster (Bullock, Miss Congeniality) who's writing from two years in the future. Their correspondence turns romantic and their paths cross in unexpected ways, but when they try to truly connect, danger looms. Though the plot of The Lake House sounds potentially static, the movie is skillfully structured and, despite some truly awful dialogue, will exert an emotional pull on anyone willing to embrace the device of the time-travelling mailbox. What the movie really demonstrates, though, is the genuine rapport between Bullock and Reeves; Reeves, though handsome, has a wooden presence--but in his few scenes with Bullock, his stiffness transforms into a palpable yearning. On-screen chemistry is slippery and hard to define, but these two have it. --Bret Fetzer

A VERY SWEET LOVE STORY January 3, 2009 The chemistry between Reeves, and Bullock is amazing in this film. The story is a bit too convoluted, but on the whole, has a lot of heart. Bullock shines as Kate, and brings out the best in Reeves.
The Lake House December 20, 2008 I don't usually watch a movie more than once; after I've seen it, well, I've seen it. But this movie stayed with me. I've watched it time and time again.
A Twilight Zone Movie. Where was Rod Serling? December 20, 2008 Sandy has done it again. For the life of me, I couldn't see any negative points to this movie, seeing some in the reviews. I didn't have any trouble following the story line. This movie shows how true love can move mountains. That mailbox was their only connection. I'm a guy that don't cry at weddings. Sandy has the gift of expression, she has a disarming effect on guys. Her charactor (Kate) sent me to a paper towl to dry the tears away in more than one scene.
Keanu Reeves did a good job of supporting actor. I was a little disappointed when he didn't put that book in the mail box for Kate.
Sandy will break your heart every time, her long brown hair, gental and unguarded brown eyes will make you melt where you stand, I love all her films even the one's that didn't turn out well for her.
I've already played this dvd over 10 times. It has given me the hope of finding that special girl, your true love.
Lacking! December 8, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thought this movie would be really great but was somewhat disappointed byt he end. The movie was boring and predictable, not to mention confusing. I really did expect better from these actors. I won't say this film is terrible but it definitely lacks interest.
Awesome! December 2, 2008 I love this movie and I haven't been able to stop watching it. I also bought the soundtrack. The music is superb. I wish that I could have a romance like that. The movie is so romantic and Bullock and Reeves are a great pair. Even though it is a fantasy, when you get into it, it seems so real. A must see over and over again.
