Product Description This is the only book that contains information on analysis of women's soccer players' running and cutting actions and how they can most effectively be improved. No other book has the sequential pictures depicting how running and cutting are executed, nor exercises that duplicate the joint actions. The book introduces the concept of specificity of exercise and how the strength, flexibility, and explosive exercises duplicate exactly what happens in running and cutting actions. Also unique to the book is information on how you can improve running and cutting through the use of specialized strength and flexibility exercises. The exercises make it possible to make corrections in technique so that the player can improve her performance very quickly. This is the only book that couples technique and strength training together to produce immediate and most effective results. Another unique aspect of the book is the introduction of active stretches for soccer (as opposed to static stretches as typically recommended). The active stretches are used, not only for improvement of flexibility, but also as a warmup to practice or play. The chapter on nutrition for speed and quickness is also unique and it presents information not typically found in other books. In fact, some of the information is in direct contrast to what is typically recommended for soccer players. Reading this book will allow the player to show a significant improvement in her performance in the shortest amount of time. It is also a great book for coaches if they are interested in improving the performance of their players.

Clear and easy to follow November 11, 2008 Having played soccer for about 8 years in my youth, I only wish I had this book at that time. I could have been so much better! The best chapters for me were the ones on technique of running and cutting actions, they were so clear, I only wish my coaches had read them. I am now a coach of my daughter's team and I am implementing the specialized exercises and training that is so clearly written and am finding that this book is very helpful in working with youth players and I have seen great success so far both in wins as well as fun and satisfaction of the players.
Interesting but hard to implement June 27, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As way of background, I'm an adult female soccer player who started playing 4 years ago as an adult. I play on a women's (C-level) team and a co-ed rec team. I'm not a naturally fast runner, which is why I bought this book. The frame-by-frame action sequences of running and cutting are informative. You can see what the players are doing--both right and wrong. Unfortunately, when it comes to figuring out what you are doing right (or wrong) it is hard to figure that out using this book. I don't think it is the fault of the author. A book just may not be the correct medium to convey this information. (The author does plug his own training company as a resource for doing this kind of analysis.) The exercises seem useful. I haven't started doing many of them as we have just began our off season and that is when the doctor recommends much of the training to occur. Most of the strength training exercises require elastic tubes with bands or gym machines. You will have to be disciplined to use this book on your own. For me, I think it would have been more effective to use the money that I spent on this book to go towards a personal trainer with sports conditioning training.
