Product Description Welcome to San Diablo. The perfect place to raise a couple of kids and a lot of Hell. Especially if you're Kate Connor, retired demon hunter. Now, after fourteen years busting her tail as a suburban housewife, raising two kids, and supporting her husband's political ambitions, she's rejoined the workforce...well, secretly, at least. Between fending off demon attacks, trying to figure out why the mysterious new teacher at the high school seems so strangely familiar, and keeping a watchful eye on her daughter's growing infatuation with a surfer dude, Kate is the busiest-and most dangerous-soccer mom on the block.

Demons. Suspense. Laugh-Out-Loud Humor. What else could you want? January 1, 2009 I loved, loved, loved this book, and am reading the entire series. The book is well written and the plot is engaging. What sucks me into her writing, however, is the humor. There are points at which she engages me, the reader, and the main character seems to turn to "the camera" in my mind's eye and roll her eyes or wink.
This whole series is definitely worth the time.
Good fast and funny read! December 4, 2008 When I bought this book I thought I was buying the first in the series (it isn't). I really like to read things in the order they were written, bt it turned out well as the author provided enough background on the characters that I didn't feel as if I were missing something and was able to keep up with the story with no problem. I really enoyed the humor and found myself laughing out loud on several occassions. As described, it's what Buffy would be like if she grew up, married, had kids and became a soccer mom!
Pick up milk-check, get kid from school-check, send demon back to hell-CHECK. December 2, 2008 The subtitle of this book is "The Secret Life of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom".
Okay, I don't think I've seen Kate yet go to a soccer game, but that's semantics. Whatever you envision from that subtitle is exactly what you get. It's funny. There are demons involved. It's chick-list paranormal humor infused fun. The author's style is very witty and I found myself several times chuckling out loud.
The best part is Kate. I absolutely adore this character and I loved getting to know her even more in this (which is the 2nd book in a series). She has been developed so well, I feel like I'm running errands with her one minute and the next stabbing some bad guy through the eye with an ice pick.
Oh, just read them. It's not high-brow literature, people. It's better. It's an escape. It's fun. Just do it :)
Carpe Demon Redux Audio Book Review November 9, 2008 Very likely I made a mistake listening to this book immediately after the first one. Kenner reuses a number of the same plot devices from her first Demon Hunter novel to much the same effect in this one. I noticed that someone else has listed the repititions so I don't feel obligated to do so.
I was once again impressed how she manages to get beat up including being throttled on a regular basis and no one, especially not her husband, notices any bruising. I would think the police would be keeping an eye on her-- or at least the press since her husband Stewart is running for office. Anyway, this is a time passer. I'm starting to hope that poor oblivious Stewart finally gets clued into what is going on in his town-- He is reminiscent of 50's and 60's sitcom husbands. His wife is hiding a big part of her life from him which includes shifting dead bodies out of his house and he appears to have no idea or is easily distracted.
As for the reader, Laura Hicks, she is quite good if a little flat sounding when doing first person narration. When it comes to conversation though she is very good voicing the children, demons and neighbors.
