Amazon.com Review
With her sixth novel, award-winning author Sarah Dessen offers up another generous helping of finely crafted storytelling about real teens dealing with real life. In The Truth About Forever, when asked how she is coping with her father's death, invariably seventeen year old Macy Queen's answer is "fine," when nothing could be further from the truth. In actuality, she is drowning in grief while maintaining a flawless facade of good grades and unblemished behavior. Though she feels lost when her boyfriend heads to "Brain Camp" for the summer, she finds herself a job with the quirky Wish Catering crew, and meets "sa-woon"-worthy Wes, whose chaotic lifestyle is in direct opposition to her own. As the two share their stories over the summer, Macy realizes she can no longer keep her feelings on ice. Though it feels like her future endedwith her dad's death, Macy's learns that forever is all about beginnings. Dessen charts Macy's navigation of grief in such an honest way it will touch every reader who meets her. All of the Dessen trademarks are here: a girl in transition, a wonderfully fleshed out cast of secondary characters, and of course, the luminous, powerful writing itself. The Truth About Forever will more than satisfy Dessen's legion of fans, and will win her countless more as well. Highly recommended. (Ages 12 and up) --Jennifer Hubert

5 out of 5 stars You will LOVE it!   January 5, 2009
I have read a lot of Sarah Dessen's books but this is my favorite! Macy is a girl learning to find herself after her father passes away but she thinks that being perfect is the right way to do it. But she meets some people who change her and she has to choose between her perfect boring life and her new "life-loving" life. You will love this because it hits home. Sarah Dessen has out done herself!

5 out of 5 stars Yes, Sometimes there is more than One Truth and that is good!   December 12, 2008
The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I Know EverythingAs a positive psychologist and an author of a fiction book for girls, tweens and young teens, The Truth (I'm a girl, I'm smart and I know everything)I really enjoy and appreciate another book that also delicately and deliberately deals with facets of truth for young people. When a girl is transitioning between being a teen and almost a woman, emotional issues are always there. Even for the girl that doesn't loose her dad, these are complicated years and the girl must figure out how to hold on to the self she is so used to and yet navigate for real in the grown-up world. The Truth About Forever is a book that really helps in that transitional phase of development. I get a kick out of both Sarah Dessen and myself using Truth in the title of our books. I know for me it was essential, as the girl in my book is transitioning between childhood and being a teen and she needs desperately to hold on to what she knows to be true. There are many good reasons to hold on to the truth. Thank you, Sarah Dessen for your insistence on 'the truth' in helping girls bridge the sensitive subject of grief! 4 out of 5 stars Reveiw from a 24 year old   December 6, 2008
I know I probably should grow up, but I love young adult fiction. I am really pleased to find Sarah Dessen. This is the first book I've read of hers. The plot is simple enough, nothing totally original about the book. But the characters were written so that I really cared about them, and looked forward to "spending time" with them. I think it makes us look at real-life issues in a was that teens (and 20-somethings like me) can easily relate to. Death of a parent. Mother-daughter relationships. Boy-girl relationships. Girl-girl friendships, etc.

I should mention there is a tiny bit of language (I think the f-word is used once or twice) and some underage drinking, which I do NOT like at all. But it certainly doesn't glorify it, just mentions it.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Random Find   December 3, 2008
So, as I was stranded miles from home, with 5 hours to spare, and no good reading material, I ventured to the nearest Goodwill. I searched through the available fiction, and randomly chose The Truth About Forever, by Sarah Dessen. I had never heard of Sarah Dessen, or this book, but I thought I'd go for it. I immediately fell in love with the characters (especially Wes :] ). I think the story is very good, and that the internal struggles will appeal to many people, not just girls, or women, and not just teenagers, although I admit, I am one. I finished it in a record time, 4 and a half hours, that was only because I had to ruin my rhythm by going to work. I say buy it, and read it, now.

5 out of 5 stars best dessen book, by far   November 7, 2008

i have to admit, while reading the back of this back at our local bookstore, it didn't really catch my interest, but, being a big fan of sarah dessen, i bought it anyway. after the first couple of chapters though, i couldn't put it down, considering its clever characters and catchy plot. Desson was right on about the emotional feelings after a loved ones passing, and it was very easy to relate to the main character, Macy. ever since witnessing her fathers heart attack, macy has been striveing to be perfect: her grades, her hair, her boyfriend (who goes to "brain camp" over the summer, leaving macy with his library job). but in comes the wish crew, a quirky, crazy catering crew, with sa-woon worthy wes, fashion savy kristy, and loveable delia. before long she hits it off with the whole group, especially wes, playing games of truth, telling him things she hasn't told anyone. no bout, this was my favorite dessen book, and i found myself feeling strongly for each character, hopeing everything worked out for the right people in the end.
