Product Description
Once upon a time, I was a little girl who disappeared.

Once upon a time, my name was not Alice.

Once upon a time, I didn't know how lucky I was.

When Alice was ten, Ray took her away from her family, her friends -- her life. She learned to give up all power, to endure all pain. She waited for the nightmare to be over.

Now Alice is fifteen and Ray still has her, but he speaks more and more of her death. He does not know it is what she longs for. She does not know he has something more terrifying than death in mind for her.

This is Alice's story. It is one you have never heard, and one you will never, ever forget.

5 out of 5 stars Dark, but outstanding   January 5, 2009

Fair warning - this book isn't for the faint of heart. Alice was abducted when she was 10 and has been held captive for the last five years. Now fifteen, she keeps waiting for Ray, her captor, to kill her and find a new victim. After all, that's what he did to the last Alice. But Ray has something far worse in mind. Dark and disturbing, this slim novel will grab you and not let go. Author Elizabeth Scott explores the mind of the victim and relentlessly details her harsh existence. Highly recommended for older teens.

5 out of 5 stars Yet another great book by Scott.   January 3, 2009

Elizabeth Scott has done it again. Living Dead Girl is an amazing, gripping novel that will have you hooked, wanting to know Alice's story.

The topic is something that has never been touched upon by young adult authors and I'm glad that Elizabeth Scott was brave enough to get it published - knowing that some people would probably criticize her about her choice of topic.

The book is told in alternating chapters of Alice's live before and then back to the present. You are constantly learning new stuff about Alice, and that's what really makes this story extra unique.

One of my favorite things, however, is that the ending is left to your imagination. You know what happens dealing with Ray, but you can leave what happens after that all up to your own imagination. I like novels like that where the author doesn't give a play-by-play about how the characters life is, but lets you leave it to your imagination.

Living Dead Girl is a book that will leave you wondering, a book you will never ever forget.

5 out of 5 stars So sad, but addicting...   December 31, 2008

Summanary: Alice was kidnapped from a school field trip, at age 10. She enters the world and is completely controlled by her captor, Ray. She has been beaten, starved and sexually abused. As, she reaches fifteen. She no longer looks or acts like a little girl. Ray decides that she needs to find someone else, another little girl. Will she end up like the last Alice and be killed? Also, will she ever make it back to 623 Daisy Lane and to her family?
Note: This book is amazing. I love Elizabeth Scott's book. They are all well written. She has published 3 other books (Bloom, Perfect You, and Stealing Heaven) in a little over a year, which is incredible. Living Dead Girl is a wonderful tale. It is not a safe world, sadly and there are sickos like Ray out there. I like how the book is honest and doesn't sugarcoat it. This book was really direct and though it was short it did leave me satisfied. I don't understand why it was a hardcover, when it was under 200 pages. I also love the strength that she gave to her heroine. I am going to shut up, because I'll keep fangirling her.

2 out of 5 stars Waste of a couple hours   December 21, 2008

The premise could be interesting and fully developed but the author fails to do that. This book was a waste of time; thankfully it's a short read and can be read in one extended period. The author attempts to use the "less is more" adage but fails at connecting the reader to the characters.

A suspenseful drama doesn't need to include such detail that nothing is left unexplained, and I do think the author made good choices in not revealing too much detail.

The chapters were so sparse, and the book is already so thin it didn't allow for a more fully developed storyline. The end of the book left me feeling very unsatisfied, somehow cheated by the cheap ended. It was as if the author had no vision how to bring closure, watched some Hollywood movie and came up with the ending after that.

To me, it was a waste of time; spend more time reading books like Under a Thousand Splendid Suns or other similar books if you are interested in a suspenseful drama where the characters are more developed and it begs the reader for a reaction.

5 out of 5 stars A breathtaking and chilling novel.   December 3, 2008

On an elementary school field trip to the aquarium, a ten-year-old girl gets abducted. She gets named "Alice," by her kidnapper Ray, and leaves behind the sweet innocent girl from 623 Daisy Lane, becoming a shell of a girl who has been both mentally and physically abused to no end, essentially making her a living dead girl.

All Alice wants is to escape from the pain she faces everyday and the only possible way she thinks she can escape is through death. Then an even more horrible thing happens - Ray asks her to find a replacement for her. Now it's her task to find another innocent girl for Ray to prey on. Could this be her release, or will Ray dispose of her just like the last Alice?

While this book is completely different then anything else Elizabeth Scott has written, it is just as remarkable. The book leaves a lasting impression on your mind as you read. Trying to imagine everything that Alice has to go through in the book is mind-boggling and it truly makes you realize how horrible people can be and how grateful people should be that they don't have to endure the same evils as Alice did. Scott's brilliant writing style shone through this dark novel, making it come alive in the reader's mind. The emotion that seeps through these pages is absolutely incredible. You'll want to scream out loud at the horrors that you encounter and cry out in frustration at the events that unfold. This is truly a haunting and unforgettable novel that everyone needs to read. It gives a one of a kind view into a world not much is known of, and one in which we all hope never to visit.
