Product Description
When his father killed another brave, Thomas Black Bull and his parents sought refuge in the wilderness. There they took up life as it had been in the old days, hunting and fishing, battling for survival. But an accident claimed the father's life and the grieving mother died shortly afterward. Left alone, the young Indian boy vowed never to retum to the white man's world, to the alien laws that had condemned his father.

5 out of 5 stars A "classic" from Hal Borland!   March 6, 2008
I have been searching for this book ever since I read it a few years ago. It is an engrossing story - This is the kind of book that deals with the rodeo and a half-breed trying to find his place in either the Indian world or the white man's world, and his journey to get peace within himself.

I have not dealt with this vendor, but I am definitely endorsing this book!!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT   January 27, 2008
This is one of my favorite books, I first read this about twenty years ago and have bought the book a few more times to give out to read, coming from a reservation, only people who have lived this way can understand the true feelings of this book. I can't wait to read again.

The 1st FIVE Chapters were missing, the book started on page 265. I will never do business with this vendor again.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good insight into bigotry   January 22, 2007
This is not just another tale of an oppressed Indian. It's a story of bigotry and cruelty, and one man's journey to make meaning in his life despite his victimhood. It's probably close-to-truth. It's an American truth worth revisiting.

3 out of 5 stars Well written but not a good plot   December 7, 2006

When The Legends Die starts out very exciting and hooks you in. But once you reach almost half way through the book takes a bad turn. The main charactor Bear Brother Black Bull [or Thomas Black Bull] turns into a bronco rider known for riding 10 horses to their deaths. I would have not gave this 3 stars but the author Hal Borland wrote the book very well. Even though the plot is sketchy I would still recomend this book to anybody that likes a action filled book
